Wilberforce Weekly Schedule by Grade Level
* Review Day: For both Explorers I and II, Mondays are an optional review day. Most parents choose to have Explorers students attend on Mondays, but some parents enjoy having their children home on Mondays for unstructured play and learning time.
We have found that Explorers more than cover their challenging lessons in their shorter days while still enjoying opportunities to play, dream, and have family time. This balance of rigorous learning with renewal and refreshment is a hallmark of the unique pre-first grade education we offer at The Wilberforce School.
1 Bridge: The Explorers Bridge period goes from 12:30 to 3, Monday through Friday. This often makes carpooling easier for families with older siblings who have a 3 dismissal.
** Review Hours: Students in Classes One and Two have an early dismissal option on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Instead of staying until three, they can go home at 12:30. These afternoons are optional review and enrichment afternoons. No core activities take place during this time. Rather, students eat lunch together and may join in nature walks, read-aloud time, silent reading, music enjoyment, handwork, and dramatic arts. Children enjoy both spending more informal time together and taking part in some of their favorite interests. Most Class One and Two students stay until three every day, but others of their classmates enjoy having the extra afternoon time at home or for sports or extracurriculars.
2 Club Time: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3 to 4:30 is club time for students in Classes One to Eight. Club activities vary by trimester – check the Extended Day section for current offerings. Generally, structured club activities happen on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, while Monday and Friday afternoons are for play and homework.
3 Club Time and Study Hall takes place Monday through Friday from 3 to 6. See the description above for Club Time. Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 6 is Study Hall time allotted for completion of homework assignments and quiet reading. A teacher will be on hand to supervise study and assist students with questions. Mondays and Fridays from 3 to 4:30 is a more informal period for activity and study.
