Book Binding

By taking apart a notebook and a bound book and putting them back together again, students will learn the types and parts of books. Students will then learn to make several types of basic notebooks (saddle stitch, perfect binding, and case binding). We will try some experimental and purely artistic methods of book binding and visit a local bindery to see modern book making first hand. Students will finish by binding their own cloth bound books in either the Japanese Stab or the Western Rounded style.
